Logistics center becomes a case for the administrative court

Judiciary investigates the lack of an environmental impact assessment. Citizens' initiative identifies tangible scandal in the dedication.

The citizens' initiative "Rett' ma die Schütt" has been trying to prevent the planned Alplog-Nord logistics center in Federaun near Villach for years. Now the conservationists are even taking the matter to the Federal Administrative Court. This is because the province did not give its approval for an environmental impact assessment (EIA). "We want to legally enforce that the Alplog-Nord logistics project is accurately assessed in its entirety with its damaging effects on the environment," says Anton Dicketmüller, spokesperson for the citizens' initiative.

Among other things, there are said to be inconsistencies in the zoning of the logistics center. This is because an environmental impact assessment would not be carried out only because the dedication falls short of the threshold value for an EIA procedure by just 49 square meters. "It is unacceptable that all those involved in what used to be the 'greenest logistics center' Alplog-Nord are apparently using unfair tricks to evade a stricter environmental assessment," says Dicketmüller.
