Austrian soldier killed in an accident
A 56-year-old Carinthian soldier from the Austrian army contingent in Bosnia crashed on Saturday during a private climbing tour near the town of Travnik. He suffered fatal injuries.
"An immediate rescue operation was unfortunately unsuccessful, we are deeply saddened and our thoughts are with the family members," says Christoph Hofmeister, press officer at the Carinthia Military Command. The body of the Carinthian professional soldier had to be recovered by helicopter.
Comrade was an eyewitness
"Soldiers are always traveling in pairs in the operational area, even in private, and this case was no exception. The comrade who witnessed the fatal crash is of course also receiving psychological support," says Hofmeister.
In the next few days, the injured soldier will be brought back to Carinthia by military transport.
