Win-win situation
Job fair brings unemployed people and companies together
Young people and people over 50 have problems finding a job. Companies offer 1200 positions in the town hall. 3000 visitors were expected. The "Krone" was there.
Many companies do not know how to keep their business running without employees and at the same time unemployment rose by 9.6 percent in March compared to the previous year.
Young Viennese between the ages of 15 and 24 are particularly affected, but so are the over-50s. Initiatives such as the Vienna Job Fair, which is currently taking place at City Hall, aim to redress this imbalance.
24 companies, such as Ankerbrot, ÖBB, Post, Spar and several city departments, such as the health association, Stadtwerke and Wiener Wohnen are represented. They will be offering around 3000 expected visitors 1200 jobs and 1600 apprenticeships with job guarantees in 18 different professional fields.
Substantial subsidies for the first eight months
"The city is investing massively in the training and further education of the Viennese and is thus addressing the needs of those making the switch as well as those of companies specifically looking for skilled workers," says City Councillor for Economic Affairs Peter Hanke. The wage and ancillary wage costs are paid almost in full for four months and around two thirds for four months. Since the start of the Joboffensive 50plus in fall 2019, funding of 28.5 million euros has already been pledged for 2631 unemployed over-50s.
