New regulations are coming
Overcrowded Master’s programs may be restricted
The government passed new regulations for students on Thursday. In future, overflowing Master's courses at universities can be restricted, as is already the case with Bachelor's and diploma courses. In addition, a limit may be set for admission applications per person and semester.
However, applications for at least five courses must be permitted. Another change concerns teacher training students. From 2025/26, training for primary school teachers will consist of a three-year Bachelor's degree and a two-year Master's degree. At present, training for primary level, which includes elementary school, takes four years at Bachelor's level plus one year at Master's level.
At secondary level, such as middle school, AHS and BMHS, it takes a total of six years - four Bachelor's and two Master's degrees. For this group, it will be one year less from 2026/27. In addition, the training should be more practical and the Master's degree should be easier to study while working.
Withdrawal of degree no longer possible after ten years
The government also decided that an academic title can no longer be withdrawn after ten years due to plagiarism in Bachelor's, diploma or Master's theses. The situation is different for plagiarism in dissertations and habilitations.
