In the search for a successor to Thomas Tuchel as the new Bayern coach, honorary president Uli Hoeneß is now talking openly for the first time about signing Leverkusen coach Xabi Alonso. However, the negotiations would certainly not be easy.

"In the meantime, he has proven that he can be a coach for the really big caste and it will be much more difficult because clubs like Liverpool, Real Madrid, Leverkusen and also FC Bayern are working on it," said Bayern's honorary president on Wednesday in a talk round at the Munich brokerage fair, revealing secret insights into the record champions.

So it's clear: Xabi Alonso is at the top of Bayern's list of coaches. The list was drawn up by Max Eberl and Christoph Freund. More than four, but fewer than 40 names are said to be on it. "It's our duty to think everything through and work through the list in peace and quiet and hold talks in peace.
