Much praise from Falstaff
Where it tastes best in Upper Austria
More than 2000 restaurants in Austria have been listed and rated in the new Falstaff, with three achieving the top mark of 100 points. And Upper Austria's cuisine has nothing to hide either. On the contrary: the Bootshaus restaurant in Traunkirchen missed the "100" mark by just one point.
"It is said that grumbling is our national sport - and the discipline in which no one can really hold a candle to us. In fact, the outlook has been rosier, and the challenges for the catering industry have also become more diverse. But it wouldn't be Austria if we didn't roll up our sleeves behind the facade of cultivated pessimism and secretly, quietly step on the gas," write Falstaff creators Wolfgang Rosam and Severin Corti, who presented the results of the latest Restaurant and Inn Guide on Monday.
Bootshaus in Traunkirchen is number one
And Upper Austria's gourmet addresses won several awards. The Bootshaus restaurant in Traunkirchen, where Lukas Nagl sets the pace, scooped four forks and 99 points, making it number one in the state. Lukas Kapeller, who got off to a flying start again together with Michael Schlöglhofer in Steyr, was acclaimed for the opening of the year. Landgasthof Ragginger in Nußdorf received praise for its commitment to beer culture.
This is what Falstaff writes about Upper Austria's best pubs:
- Bootshaus in Traunkirchen (99 points/4 forks): There is hardly another chef who has managed to put his stamp on fish cuisine so exquisitely and represent the culinary Salzkammergut internationally. Lukas Nagl is one of the best.
- Ois im Mühltalhof (98 points/4 forks): You could pull out one gourmet arrow after another from the quiver of superlatives and always hit the mark. Because what Philip Rachinger achieves here can only be described with superlatives: Ois.
- Tanglberg in Vorchdorf (96 points/4 forks): While many young chefs are inspired by Asia and Nordic cuisine, Max Schellerer remains true to French cuisine. High gourmet standards in an elegant ambience, accompanied by heavenly wines.
- Lukas Restaurant in Schärding (95 points/4 forks): Lukas Kienbauer's culinary artistry is no longer a surprise. The shooting star has left his mark on upscale cuisine. Exceptional, formidable: carte blanche, accompanied by drinks.
- Waldschänke in Grieskirchen (95 points/4 forks): An experience - there is no other way to describe this restaurant. Where do you start? With the guest garden in the meadow, the brunch, the warmth, the wine expertise, the gourmet cuisine? Everything is an experience.
