Lessons canceled
“Unreasonable statement”: bomb alert at school
On Tuesday morning, a bomb threat was received at a Vienna technical college in the 20th district. The police operation has since ended.
At 6.45 a.m., emails from the school management arrived on the smartphones of the students at TGM, a technical college in the 20th district. Conclusion: No lessons!
Due to a bomb threat, no pupils were allowed to enter the school until the all-clear was given. Lessons were therefore canceled for the first few hours.
At 9.10 am, the director gave the all-clear: "The police initially cordoned off the building and searched the premises. In the end, it was determined that there was no explicit threat."
"Very unreasonable statement"
Presumably a "very unreasonable" statement by a pupil had led to these far-reaching consequences and the resulting costs, the principal continued. Classes have already resumed and the police operation has been terminated, as the principal informed "Krone" in response to an inquiry.
The police have since announced that a 16-year-old TGM pupil had probably misunderstood a message at the bus stop: the pupil is said to have heard at a bus stop near the school on December 11 that there was to be a rampage at the school on December 12.
In the course of the investigation, it turned out that there was never such a threat, but merely a misunderstood message in a class chat, which the 16-year-old overheard at the bus stop and drew his conclusions from, the police said.
