Fears for Vienna’s Olympic hopeful

Concern for Benny Wizani. The trampolinist, who qualified for the Olympics for the first time, injured his knee during the final training session for the Vienna Championships. 

During a double somersault with a quadruple twist, the 22-year-old landed on the safety mat just outside the jumping mat and immediately felt pain. A meniscus injury is suspected. The magnetic resonance imaging on Monday will provide final clarity.

Coach Willi Wöber, who passed his doctoral thesis ("AI models for the quantification of biodiversity using the example of the Nile tilapia") at BOKU with distinction in January, says: "We are positive that everything will be back to normal by Paris."

In Wizani's absence, Fiona Beigelbeck and Niki Fröschl won the Viennese titles in Hopsagasse. Benny was delighted with his training partners.

Franz Heher, who has built up the trampoline division throughout Austria from WAT Brigittenau since 1971 and continues to train children and young people at the age of 71, says: "We all work closely together in our community and develop things together. That's what makes us special."
