US destroyer again fired on by Houthis
According to US reports, the Iran-backed Yemeni Houthi rebels have fired a short-range ballistic missile at the destroyer "USS Laboon" in the Red Sea.
"Centcom and a coalition ship successfully engaged and destroyed two unmanned drones launched from a Houthi-controlled area in Yemen," the US Central Command (Centcom) announced.
A tweet on X reads: "Between 2am and 4:30am (Sanaa time) on March 12, Iran-backed Houthi terrorists fired a short-range ballistic missile from Houthi-controlled areas in Yemen at the USS Laboon in the Red Sea. The missile did not strike the ship, and no injuries or damage were reported."
The United States Central Command and a coalition ship had "successfully engaged and destroyed two unmanned aerial systems (UAS) launched from a Houthi-controlled area in Yemen."
"Immediate Threat"
"It has been determined that these weapons pose an immediate threat to merchant vessels and U.S. Navy ships. These actions are being taken to protect freedom of navigation and make international waters safer for U.S. Navy vessels and merchant ships," Centcom said.
