After Navalny's death
The Austrians on Putin’s revenge list
No one is immune to the Kremlin's revenge, as the case of Alexei Navalny shows. Four compatriots are also listed as enemies of the state by Putin's secret service.
Kremlin Tsar Vladimir Putin is currently searching for a total of 95,994 regime critics.
Putin searches for Estonia's head of government
Prominent politicians such as Estonia's head of government Kaja Kallas are at the top of the revenge list. She caused a stir in Russia because she campaigned for the removal of monuments from the Soviet era in the Baltic country.
Almost a third of the wanted persons are Russian citizens, followed by around 10,000 Armenians and the same number of Uzbeks.
Four native citizens
But the long arm of the Kremlin naturally also extends to Central Europe. The "Krone" took a close look at the data published by the Russian exile news portal "Mediazona" and came across a total of four native citizens.
C. B. (name known to the editors), who was born in 1969, and A. M., who was born in Australia and now holds red-white-red citizenship, are also listed.
Accusation: fought as foreign mercenaries for Ukraine
Two compatriots also appear under the heading "Rybar". They are accused by the state of fighting as foreign mercenaries for Ukraine. Eleven foreigners currently living in Austria are also listed as "enemies". The list ranges from an Armenian in Styria to the bearer of a dragon tattoo in Lower Austria.
Memorial in front of the Russian embassy in Vienna is growing
Meanwhile, on Saturday afternoon there was a constant coming and going in front of the Russian embassy in Vienna, where members of the Russian community have been commemorating Navalny with an improvised memorial since Friday. At times, up to 20 people were present in Reisnerstraße at the same time, some of whom also displayed posters on a construction fence with very expressive criticism of Kremlin boss Vladimir Putin and his regime.
In contrast to a spontaneous rally on Friday afternoon, at which slogans against Putin were also chanted loudly, Saturday afternoon was dominated by silent remembrance of the opposition politician. Many Russians, especially younger Russians, had tears in their eyes, they laid flowers on the edge of the sidewalk and put up grave lights.
