Horror for a Kufstein family: their little four-legged friend fell victim to a powerful "fighting dog" during a walk. The Tyrolean police have already filed several reports.

The nightmare for the entrepreneurial couple from Kufstein became reality last Sunday: "On a walk in Weissach, we came close to two large other dogs," says the owner of the female Biewer Yorkshire Terrier called "Lila".

"Just want to play" - by then it was already too late
The owner only said that the powerful dogs, who were not on a lead, "just wanted to play" - by then it was already too late: "The two dogs chased my 'Lila' for minutes, and they put 'Lila' down by a wall in Glashüttenstraße."

The other dog's mouth was almost as big as my little "Lila".

"One of the two then bit, his mouth was almost as big as my little dog," says the Unterländer, describing the horrific scenes. He and his wife were reluctant to intervene: "They were huge animals, I've never seen skulls that big before."

Large wounds on neck and stomach
The little Yorkshire terrier was killed instantly due to huge wounds on its neck and stomach. "My wife was still holding our dog, she was also covered in blood - a huge shock."

The alerted municipal police recorded the data. "We have filed several reports under the state police law," they say. However, the nature of the alleged offenses was not specified.

No list of dangerous dogs in Tyrol
The powerful dogs belong to the Mastiff breed. In principle, they are considered to be gentle, but in Vienna and Vorarlberg they belong to the "list dogs" (often referred to as "fighting dogs"). This list does not exist in Tyrol, but since October 2020 a mandatory certificate of competence has been in force for first-time dog owners, regardless of breed.
