New chairman of the Salzburg SPÖ has been appointed

Max Maurer, who has been a member of the state parliament for many years, will lead the SPÖ's state parliament club in future. He succeeds David Egger, who will step down from his position in November and remain a simple member of parliament.

Last week, SPÖ leader David Egger announced his resignation as party leader and also as head of the provincial parliament. After a few days, a solution was found for the party leadership. AK President Peter Eder, Bettina Brandauer and Barbara Thöny will take over as the three of them from January. A permanent solution has now been found for the provincial parliamentary club, rather than an interim one.

On Wednesday, an agreement was reached within the Landtagsklub on Max Maurer as Egger's successor. Previously, Roland Meisl had also been brought into play.

"We will put our fingers in the government's wounds," says the future club chairman, thus clarifying the direction of the opposition party. Together with the party's three leaders, mayors and officials, he wants to help reposition the Salzburg SPÖ.

Maurer already appeared combative on Wednesday. "As an amateur boxer, I can dish it out, but I can also take it," he said. In general, however, he wants to work more with "the fine blade". He already made an important decision on Wednesday: "I won't be taking over the party chairmanship!" David Egger, who is still party leader, will remain a member of parliament.
