Dead man not discovered for a long time: “It was very unfortunate”

Great consternation in the Styrian district town of Hartberg: a 66-year-old man crashed his e-scooter in the middle of the town and was only found dead half a day later. How could this happen?

Ressavarstraße is a main traffic artery that runs through the middle of Hartberg. Right here, at the junction with Johann-Zechner-Gasse, a fatal accident happened on Wednesday - and nobody seems to have noticed anything.

It must have been a chain of several tragic circumstances.

"As far as I know, no accident has ever happened here before. It must have been very unfortunate and a chain of several tragic circumstances," says Mayor Marcus Martschitsch to the "Krone" newspaper. According to the police, the 66-year-old was riding his e-scooter on Ressavarstraße sometime between 3 p.m. and midnight - presumably on the sidewalk. There is a cycle path on the other side of the road that he could have used.

Embankment difficult to see
As an acquaintance of the victim told the "Krone" local police, the scooter rider was probably on his way home. The pensioner fell down a densely overgrown embankment, which is difficult to see from the road. The body was only discovered by a passer-by shortly before 11 a.m. on Thursday. The emergency doctor could only determine that he had died. It is assumed that the man had an unfortunate collision with a branch.
