Snowfields were the undoing of alpinists

Mountain rescuers were called out to two missions in the East Tyrolean mountains on Friday. In both cases, snowfields were the undoing of alpinists. The emergency helicopters were also called out.

The first accident occurred at around 10.15 am. A local man (53) wanted to hike from the Bergerseehütte in Virgen via the Lasörling Höhenweg to the Lasörlinghütte. "At an altitude of 2745 meters above sea level, he wanted to cross a snow field and slipped despite wearing Grödel", according to the police. The man then slipped around 30 meters and hit a rock. 

The mountaineer briefly lost consciousness. When he regained consciousness, he set the rescue chain in motion. The "C7" emergency helicopter flew the 53-year-old to the district hospital in Lienz.

After receiving initial emergency medical treatment, the hiker was taken to Innsbruck Regional Hospital with undetermined injuries.

The second accident occurred shortly after 11 am. Three Germans were on a tour in St. Jakob, which they had started from the Kasseler Hütte in South Tyrol. Their destination was the Parmhütte. On the ascent to the Rosshornscharte, the group had to pass a snowfield. A 30-year-old man slipped and fell around 50 meters down a rocky gully.

The companions made an emergency call. The emergency helicopter "ARA3" rescued the mountaineer with the cable winch. He was flown to Innsbruck Hospital.
