Oberwart's basketball players
With consistency and discipline into the quarter-finals
Ninth win for Oberwart's basketball players in the qualifying round! And of course much more important: this victory in the Burgenland derby of the Basketball Super League in Eisenstadt gave the Gunners a ticket to the quarter-finals even before the last matchday of the intermediate round!
Captain Sebastian Käferle and Co. didn't let it get to them from the start in Eisenstadt and didn't want to be annoyed by their "little brother" for a second time this season. With their playoff ticket in sight, they were more consistent, more dominant on the rebound and led by 29 points after just 20 minutes. Although two players - Munis Tutu and Florian Köppel - had to miss out due to injury, Head Coach Horst Leitner was able to rotate easily early on. The final score was 92:64.
The fact that the play-off was secured ahead of time delighted the fans, the team and coach Leitner: "The win and thus a place in the quarter-finals is what counts. The lads played consistently and disciplined." The rather "tight" third quarter was also bearable. In the end, all that mattered was the quarter-finals!
We stuck to our game plan and I'm incredibly proud of my team.

A conciliatory finish desired
And the home side? At the last Dragonz home game of the season, General Manager Roland Knor addressed the Eisenstadt crowd during the first quarter break: "My thanks go to the volunteers and fans. We're doing this for you." Now, however, the aim is to end the season on at least a slightly conciliatory note in sporting terms and keep the "Red League Lantern" dangling in Fürstenfeld in the final round on Saturday.
