“We should be ashamed”: Will Tuchel now leave early?
Another day to forget for Bayern coach Thomas Tuchel! After the embarrassing 3:2 defeat against Heidenheim, the question arises: Will Tuchel be fired before the end of the season? Chief Sports Officer Max Eberl and Sports Director Christoph Freund had clear words. "We should all be a little ashamed of ourselves today," said Eberl.
Despite the embarrassing defeat, Tuchel will be on the bench against Arsenal in the Champions League next week. Asked about a possible change of coach at short notice, Eberl said on Sky: "I didn't have that thought. That's definitely not the way to go. Bayern have already sacked their coach, but they are still where they are. It's not always just a coaching problem. We should all be ashamed of ourselves today."
No clear commitment
Bayern would go "into the next few weeks" with Tuchel, but Eberl avoided making a clear commitment to the coach: "I know the question will come up, but I can't answer it like that."
Eberl announces upheaval
"This is not the Bayern Munich I knew," continued Eberl, who took up his position at Säbener Straße a few weeks ago amid great unrest and was "surprised by the lack of stability" he found at Bayern. He also announced a major shake-up for the new season, saying that "some things will have to be changed".
Freund: "Everyone has to look at themselves"
And sporting director Freund said after the game: "Everyone has to look in the mirror and ask themselves whether they gave their all. We can't expect to concede three goals in the second half in Heidenheim after leading 2-0. Every individual has to question themselves and we can't accept that. Everyone has to take a good look at themselves."
It remains to be seen how Bayern will fare against FC Arsenal in the Champions League on Tuesday.
