He’s looking, she’s looking: Love beckons in Wals

Two committed women invite over-60s to "speed dating" in Wals. "Men, have the courage!", they advise single men.

After arriving, a glass of sparkling wine lightens the mood. Then the gong sets the pace. Only ten minutes are allotted for getting to know each other - "speed dating". 14 men and 14 women over the age of 60 will be given the chance to find a new love on April 9 at the Walser Birnbaum center. There are still places available for men. Then on April 30 for women too.

After a break of one and a half years, everything in Wals will once again revolve around love for an afternoon. The organizers are Margit Wallner, who had the idea for the event, and Brigitte Költringer, who runs the assisted living facility in the "Walser Birnbaum". "Older people should not become lonely, but remain active, even in love," says Wallner. Co-organizer Költringer adds: "We have enough women on the list. But there are still too few men. We advise them to take the plunge."

It's worth showing a little courage. This is something that "alumni" who have found a new love in one of the ten or so speed dating sessions since 2020 agree on. One woman from Flachgau says: "You become more hesitant as you get older, but you still long for a partnership."

The man she met at the event felt the same way as she did. But they both took the plunge, sat opposite each other for ten minutes with a number picker - and there was a spark. Today, the two senior citizens have been a happy couple for three years.
