ORF salaries: “This is a mockery”
The ORF reveals 62 top salaries of over 170,000 euros, with a radio presenter at the top: Robert Kratky. The publication is now taking place despite opposition from top earners. The reasons for such sums would be expensive old contracts and responsibility for large budgets. Kratky earns the most with a proud 455,000 euros per year, followed by security officer Pius Strobl and general director Roland Weissmann. Are such amounts justified? Read here what the "Krone" community thinks about the luxury salaries!
"Simply shameful"
Many of our readers are very critical of the high salaries paid to ORF employees. Especially in relation to "normal earners", these salaries are almost "criminal", writes Forummaus, for example. jetztreichtsoba also notes that getting up early is part of the daily work routine for many, but is not remunerated in this way. Gez33 even goes so far as to claim that such luxury salaries are "a mockery of the normal taxpayer". And habsmirgedacht points out that other job sectors are entitled to such wages.
Compulsory fees: Thorn in the side
Krone readers are particularly annoyed by the fact that the ORF is compulsorily financed by compulsory household levies. Krone reader1058452 lacks the corresponding output because Austrian productions are rare. Willnichtalleswissen understands that high salaries are appropriate in certain sectors and that the ORF is needed in its intended form, but in his/her opinion it is currently not independent and the fees for this are simply not in proportion.
Normal media and management salaries?
However, other voices in our forum also found understanding for the high monthly payments. gatschhupfer, for example, points out that radio presenter Robert Kratky in particular has established himself as a brand in his own right, meaning that he is also largely responsible for the success of ORF. Steve79 interjects that such salaries in management are the rule rather than the exception, but that side jobs would be taboo for him/her in return. And Leporello notes that in neighboring Germany, media employees are paid far higher salaries.
Justified objections
Other users questioned the extent to which luxury salaries are in proportion to success and workload. ironman , for example, cites the reach and ratings of the ORF3 channel in this regard. JGLL, on the other hand, wonders how Ö3 anchorman Kratky is able to pursue a second job in addition to his regular one, which earns him an equally considerable sum.
From the taxpayer directly to the account
With regard to the justification of some for the high salaries, AufKreta finds that the "state-funded" factor is the tipping point.
What do you think about the salaries of the ORF's top employees? Are the payments justified or far removed from reality? How do you think salaries should be distributed more fairly? Share your opinion with us in the comments!
