Rumors about marital crisis
Albert: “Charlene was very upset and sad”
On the occasion of his 66th birthday on March 14, Prince Albert has now given an interview. In it, he spoke not only about his children, but also about the not always easy moments that he and his wife Charlene have had to live through in recent years.
The royal couple have been confronted with rumors of a marriage crisis for years - even though Albert never tires of denying them. The speculation is particularly hard to bear for Charlene. Not least because she has recently been struggling with health problems and has therefore had to take a longer break.
"Annoyed and sad"
"The Princess is fine now," Albert now clarified, but revealed: "She was also very upset and sad about certain things that were circulating in the media."
Together, however, they got through the rumors, according to the prince. "We supported each other. To everyone's delight, she has resumed many of her activities and other public engagements."
Health problems and crisis rumors
Princess Charlene was stuck in her former home country of South Africa for around six months in 2021 due to health problems and even had to undergo two ENT operations. After arriving in Monaco, the ex-swimmer retreated to Switzerland to recover from the stress and public pressure.
Charlene has long since returned to appearances alongside Albert, including on the Prince's birthday. The couple were also accompanied on this day by their children Jacques and Gabriella.
Albert chatted about twins
The twins, who are celebrating their 10th birthday this year, are slowly growing up, Albert also revealed to "Paris Match". "She's a little lady with an independent character and she expresses herself quite freely," the Prince revealed about Gabriella in the birthday interview - and continued: "We thought Jacques was rather introverted, but he's been gaining confidence for a while now. He looks after his sister."
According to Albert, his children are already well involved in the obligations that come with their lineage. "They are very close, very close. They have both understood the very special role they have to play and the obligations they have, even if I don't go into detail about this aspect so as not to burden them."
Showered with affection
He really enjoyed his birthday, Albert revealed in conclusion. Because: "Fortunately, my whole family is there for me and showers me with their affection. Both my immediate family and the extended Monegasque family. We are one and the same family, united and supportive."
