Katschbergstraße will be closed for 19 days

More traffic for the Tauernautobahn! When the Katschbergstraße in Lungau is closed for renovation work in April, the authorities will divert traffic via the A10. The closure is expected to last almost three weeks.

The important traffic link in Lungau between Salzburg and Carinthia is due for necessary renovation work. The B99 Katschbergstraße in the St. Michael district of Stranach will be completely closed over a length of around 700 meters between 8 and 26 April. The road surface will be removed in a first step and completely resurfaced and modernized in subsequent steps. The provincial road administration has scheduled a closure of 19 days for the renovation of the road surface, during which time the road in the Stranach district will be completely closed. Remaining work will then be carried out, but without any major restrictions for traffic. Preparatory work for the project began in the fall of 2023.

Six million for Lungau roads
For Deputy Governor Stefan Schnöll, the work on the B99 is an important investment in road safety in Lungau. "The state is investing around one million euros in the final renovation stage of the Katschbergstraße. This will modernize the important pass road to Carinthia. However, the construction work near Stranach is not the only project in Salzburg's southernmost district in 2024. The state is investing a total of six million euros in the Lungau roads this year," says Schnöll.

The important road connection to Lungau between the Carinthian state border and St. Michael is therefore inaccessible to all vehicles. Alternative traffic will be routed over a large area via the A10, the Tauern highway. Local access routes are available for residents in Stranach.
