Violence in the delivery room: women describe their experiences

The Krone+ series on violence in the delivery room is making waves. Dozens of women have come forward with their accounts of violent birth experiences, proving that there is a need for action: There is a need for action in Austria.

Studies suggest that up to 50 percent of all mothers have experienced violence at the hands of doctors and midwives during the delivery of their child - we have reported on this. This ranges from disparaging remarks to physical assaults, some of which are probably due to the chronic lack of time and staff in the healthcare sector.

A taboo subject, which Krone+ took up, leading to numerous reader reactions. Some sent words of thanks for reporting on the problem. Many women also responded to the appeal and wrote their own stories - a glance at Krone+ is deeply moving.
