Kundl remains top
Sandoz plant produces 1 billion more tablets
Another 50 million euro investment in Kundl strengthens the site in the face of global competition. This time, the Group invested money without any further public subsidies.
Sandoz demonstrates with deeds that the Kundl site has a future: On a production area of 3000 m², the production of one billion additional penicillin tablets and a doubling of the quantity of dry juices (mainly used in pediatric drugs) will now be possible.
Part of a 200 million package
"As a hub and center of our antibiotics production, Kundl is a true lighthouse project," said Sandoz CEO Richard Saynor, who had traveled to the opening. The aim is to combat bottlenecks and ensure reliable access for patients. The new facility is part of a €200 million package at the successful site.

State and federal politics in Kundl
Given these sums, it is only logical that LH Anton Mattle and Minister of Economic Affairs Martin Kocher did not take long to attend the ceremony and tour: "Tyrol has successfully positioned itself as an attractive location for life sciences for many years. We are proud to be home to Europe's only remaining penicillin production site," said Mattle. Kocher praised Sandoz's contribution "to maintaining and expanding our security of supply".
240 million packs of tablets a year can now be produced in Kundl, 20 percent more than before. This also corresponds to a doubling compared to the level in 2021.

Investment managed without a subsidy this time
Sandoz had already opened a penicillin plant in Kundl last fall. The federal government provided 45 million euros, five million euros came from the state of Tyrol. The 50 million euros now invested came from Sandoz itself. These decisions show that Kundl can continue to enjoy great success in global competition.
