Microsleep caused serious traffic accident
Because a 69-year-old driver fell asleep while driving, he subsequently crashed into a pole. He and his passenger were both seriously injured.
A serious traffic accident occurred on Saturday afternoon on Untere Donaustraße out of town when a driver apparently fell asleep behind the wheel.
The 69-year-old driver lost control of his vehicle and crashed into a tensioning pole before colliding with a parked car. Both the driver and his passenger were injured and received emergency medical treatment from the Vienna Emergency Medical Services before being taken to hospital.
Considerable material damage was caused to the vehicles involved and the tensioning mast. The traffic accident command has taken over the investigation. The driver has been charged.
