Not only the shocking confession of one of the alleged perpetrators, but also the statements in the police interrogation following the triple murder in a Viennese erotic club are causing upheaval. The Afghan asylum seeker Ebadullah A. enters an Asian studio in the evening hours after visiting a mosque. With one goal: to murder. "Prostitutes are under the cloak of Satan. I read in the Koran that I should wage jihad!"

In the erotic club, the 27-year-old then immediately stabbed two women working there and the owner - all Chinese women - repeatedly. Forensics counted almost 100 stabs in total!

Some of them with such immense force that the heads of two of the victims were almost severed. Only one woman survived because she locked herself in a room. The death screams of her colleagues will haunt her for the rest of her life.

For the lawyer, the alleged triple murderer is "a broken soul, an unfortunate sick person". The knife she was guided by magic and sorcery. "He lives in a mythical world."

Whether the public prosecutor's office sees it the same way for the suspect, who is now in custody at the Vienna Regional Court, will now be clarified by a psychiatric report commissioned from a specialized expert.

Sanity determines length of detention
The expert opinion will also determine the length of the prison sentence. If the Afghan is deemed insane at the time of the crime, he could de facto be committed to an institution for mentally disturbed offenders without a murder trial. And then - as in the case of the Amstetten horror father Josef Fritzl - a senate of judges would decide whether to release him from detention.

With a photo portfolio of the suspect, the mother of several children finally goes to the Vienna State Criminal Police Office, Southern Branch, and files a complaint. Then things move quickly. Investigators raided more than ten homes in a court search and confiscated at least four cell phones. However, none of the 17 suspected rapists are put behind bars. The public prosecutor's office apparently does not see sufficient grounds for arrest. The judiciary must now decide on further action and a possible indictment. As the suspects (all of whom are presumed innocent) are subject to juvenile criminal law, they only face half the maximum sentence for adults.
