"Right to survival"
Climate stickers launch large-scale protest at Museumsplatz
With hundreds of fellow campaigners, the climate activists of the Last Generation paralyzed traffic at the Museumsquartier in Vienna on Saturday afternoon. As part of a large-scale protest, the climate campaigners wanted to raise their voice for climate protection in the constitution.
"Right to survive": this was the activists' motto for the huge gathering at Museumsplatz in Vienna's city center on Saturday. According to the Last Generation, prominent supporters were among those present - such as the scientist of the year 2022, Franz Essl.
In speeches at the site, the activists once again called on those responsible to take science seriously and to act with the necessary urgency. "As a first step, we are demanding our right to survival in the constitution," said spokesperson Anna Freund.
The Last Generation has recently returned from its winter break. Since last Monday, disruptive actions have been taking place again in Vienna. The demonstrators have already stuck themselves to an intersection in Favoriten, and Schönbrunner Schloßstraße was also paralyzed.
There was also chaos on Wednesday during a session of the National Council in front of the parliament building. Activists blocked the entrance there.
