Fencing center anniversary

“MuskeStiere” have been in and out for 50 years

The Salzburg Fencing Center is celebrating its 50th birthday. To mark the anniversary, the aces of yesteryear will also be making an appearance at the celebration on Saturday. The "Krone" looks back on its eventful history.

If these premises could speak. For 50 years, Olympic athletes, World Cup fencers and national champions have come and gone at the Salzburg Fencing Center, and many a "MuskeStier" has sweated endlessly on the way to a great career. The first battles in the HAK underfloor in the provincial capital date back to 1974.

 "Everything looked more like a warehouse back then," Roman Hinterseer remembers the early days. Since then, his wife Uschi and Armin Fallwickl have been coming in and out of the now spruced-up fencing temple alongside Salzburg's "Mister Fencing". With the major interruption in 2002: the flood played havoc with the premises. In addition to the fencing family's permanent work, there was also a month-long lockdown.

All of this will be reviewed when the big 50th anniversary celebration is held on Saturday evening as part of the national championships. Former Salzburg aces such as Barbara Koppenwallner, Anna Döcker and Rene Pranz have already announced their attendance.
