“Parked” surfboard triggers large-scale operation

Carinthian water rescuers are always on the lookout in summer bathing weather. When a report was received on Friday that an abandoned surfboard had been found on Lake Faak, the divers were immediately deployed.

Four rescue boats, the police helicopter, around 30 divers and a total of 50 emergency services - this was the number of people deployed to search for a supposed casualty on Lake Faak on Friday. "A family discovered an abandoned surfboard on which they had previously seen a person surfing," reports Faaker See Water Rescue. "When we arrived, we found the surfboard and alerted other teams. A diving alarm was then triggered."

Despite assistance from the air, the divers were unable to find anyone. Then came the relieving news: "At around 4.30 p.m., a holidaymaker contacted the emergency services and informed them that he had temporarily parked the surfboard at the location." The emergency services from ÖWR Faak am See, BF Klagenfurt, HF Villach, FF Faak am See, Drobollach and Velden and Velden were able to return to the scene.
