Part of Salzburg-Lehen lay in darkness for days

Part of Salzburg's most densely populated district, Lehen an der Salzach, was in partial darkness these days. At Makartkai north of Lehener Park, numerous street lamps normally illuminate the sidewalk and the street.

Between Lehener Park and Traklsteg, there was no light from the street lamps for ten nights. Residents wondered whether nobody noticed: "Don't the police patrol here every day?" After the fatal knife attack by a Somali on a fellow countryman in February and earlier acts of violence, they fear for their safety around Lehener Park.

An inquiry to the police revealed that patrols are being carried out. Curious: according to the responsible office in the Salzburg City Council, neither citizens nor the police reported the darkness to the office. The lanterns had failed due to a power surge. After a resident reported it on Monday, they were immediately repaired.

"Citizens simply have to call us in such cases so that we are informed. After all, we have 20,000 lighting fixtures in the city," emphasizes the responsible office.
