Brussels will not host Belgium-Israel!

The city of Brussels is unable to host the Nations League match between Belgium and Israel scheduled for September 6 at the King Baudouin Stadium!

In a statement on Wednesday, the city council cited security concerns and expected protests. "The City of Brussels considers it impossible to organize a Belgium-Israel match at the King Baudouin Stadium," the city government emphasized.

"From a careful and in-depth analysis, we must conclude that the announcement of such a match in our capital in these particularly problematic times would undoubtedly lead to large demonstrations and counter-demonstrations that would jeopardize the safety of spectators, players, residents of Brussels and our police forces," the city government continued.

The war in Gaza following the Hamas terror attack sparked demonstrations around the world, including in Belgium, where Israel-haters staged protests and sit-ins in universities. This led some Belgian universities to partially or completely sever ties with Israeli institutions.
