Saudi club confirms: Benzema departs for Real
Karim Benzema is returning to his old club Real Madrid! This was announced by the top striker's club Al-Ittihad from Saudi Arabia on Thursday. The Spaniards should finally get the 36-year-old Frenchman fit again.
"After being in contact with Real Madrid, the agreement was reached for Benzema to undergo new tests at the Real Madrid clinic with the medical team that treated him during his time at the club. Benzema has left for Madrid and will return next week", said the Al-Ittihad statement on "X" (formerly Twitter).
66 million euros per year
Background: Benzema has been plagued by recurring injury problems since his move to the desert state last summer. The 2021/22 World Player of the Year has been waiting over four months to score a goal and has come in for a lot of criticism as a result.
