Cause for concern?
Queen Silvia causes a stir with a red eye
Queen Silvia of Sweden caused a stir with a bloodshot eye during the state visit of the new Finnish President Alexander Stubb and his wife Suzanne Innes-Stubb in Stockholm on Tuesday. The wildest theories were circulating.
According to the palace, however, there was no cause for concern. The 80-year-old queen's red eye was not dangerous, but was caused by a cold draught.
"Cold draught"
Court spokeswoman Margareta Thorgren told the newspaper "Svensk Damtidning": "The Queen has caught a cold draught in her eye. Otherwise the Queen is fine."
Bright pink at the gala dinner
The Queen also showed this off in the evening at the state banquet that she and King Carl XVI hosted for the Finnish presidential couple at the Royal Palace.
Crown Princess Victoria of Sweden, her husband Prince Daniel and Prince Carl Philip and his wife Princess Sofia were also present at the gala dinner.
While the Queen was resplendent in a bright pink gown, the Crown Princess wore white. Princess Sofia wore a blue evening dress.
Former prime minister now president
Former Finnish Prime Minister Stubb was elected President of Finland in February.
It is a tradition for a newly elected Finnish president to make his first state visit to Sweden. It is seen as an expression of the special relationship that exists between Sweden and Finland.
