On Thursday and Friday, the Energy Camp in Murau will take place for the tenth time - once again, renowned experts will be taking a close look at the energy transition.

The Holzwelt energy camp in Murau is a real success story. On Thursday and Friday, the organizers want to prove once again that they are thought leaders. The title is "Hydrogen - power for change?". A series of renowned speakers will accompany the tenth edition, including Michael Harasek, known for his innovations in the hydrogen economy, Sarah Löschl (from the Ministry of Labor and Economy, coordinator for the implementation of the hydrogen strategy), Vanja Subotic from the Institute of Thermal Engineering at Graz University of Technology and Jürgen Rechberger, expert from AVL List. The Energy Camp will also once again offer a mix of information, discussion and entertainment, including a special edition of "Fact or Fake" with presenter Clemens Maria Schreiner.

This time the focus is on hydrogen. Hydrogen is considered one of the pillars of the energy future. But what role does it play in the energy transition in Austria? Where does hydrogen come from and can it be produced at home? What about the topic of hydrogen in mobility? These and other interesting topics will be explored from all angles at the energy camp.

Holzwelt Murau itself was already a pioneer in summer 2022 - with its own hydrogen energy cell. "The district of Murau produces three times as much electricity as it consumes with the power of sun, water, wind and biomass - but only in the warm season. In the cold season, we still have to buy in electricity from fossil fuels such as oil and gas," explains Managing Director Harald Kraxner. The hydrogen energy cell now stores the electricity produced via a PV system for the long term and makes it available in winter - thus promoting regional energy independence.

For Kraxner, the fact is: "Green hydrogen is a key energy source of the future. We must use every opportunity to reduce emissions." Hydrogen hardly plays a role in road transport yet, but what are the possible areas of application for the future? "Aviation, shipping, steel production or even for snow groomers." And as buffer storage.
