Post ladies third
Great jubilation over bronze at the farewell
Post's volleyball ladies finished the league season in third place. "That's okay," said Viennese club boss Karl Hanzl. "We're delighted to be back in the European Cup." Captain Miksikova retires, blocker Mehic is to return to the record champions.
Thanks to the 3:1 home win, they won the best-of-3 series against Graz 2:0. Martina Pöltl, mother of basketball star Jakob, who once played for Post herself, won bronze - Sokol's women finished the AVL season strongly. "That's fitting when you consider that we were only fifth after the basic round and didn't beat a top four team," emphasizes club boss Karl Hanzl. "I had the feeling in the play-off that we could achieve anything up to gold. But still, we have a medal and have qualified for the European Cup."
And that at the farewell of captain Lucia Miksikova. The Slovakian attacker is ending her career and was honored for her commitment, as was Lia Berger for her Beach U18 European Championship silver medal. Hanzl hopes that top blocker Anilise Fitzi (Nzl) will stay and team player Aida Mehic will return from Zagreb. "We want to be champions in 2025 and in the Champions League." The old Post-Halle is not a worthy setting for the sport's biggest stage. "It's been cleaned, but nothing else is happening in terms of infrastructure."
The club men also defeated Amstetten 3:1 at home to secure seventh place in the AVL - and will end the season on Friday with the bronze medal girls in the Luftburg.
