Tools stolen
Romanian thieving duo busted during an inspection
A stolen impact wrench, various drills, cable reels, tools and even stolen scaffolding were found by customs officers during a check in Hohenems. The handcuffs clicked for two Romanians.
When freeway police officers checked the two Romanians at the A14 service area in Hohenems at around 9.30 a.m. on Monday, both the duo and the load seemed rather suspicious.
In order to take a closer look, the car and trailer were finally escorted to the Hohenems customs office, where the load was checked more closely. The highway patrol officers and customs officials were astonished: in the car and trailer of the thieves they found stolen items worth several thousand euros, which had been stolen from a construction site in Germany.
The two men, aged 37 and 38, were arrested on the spot. During the subsequent police interrogation, they stated that they had only provided transportation services.
In police custody
Further international investigations are being conducted by officers from the Dornbirn highway police. The Romanians are currently still in police custody. The Feldkirch Provincial Court will decide whether they will be detained later today.
