Car against truck
Seriously injured in traffic accident on B100
A car and a truck loaded with liquid nitrogen were involved in a serious accident on the B100 Drautalstraße in Carinthia shortly before 5.30 a.m. on Friday morning. The road had to be closed and the operation has since been ended - with a fatal outcome.
As confirmed by the police, there was a major incident on the B100 in the direction of Spittal between the Villach Nord and Villach West junctions on Friday. An accident occurred there early in the morning; according to the fire department, a car almost collided head-on with a truck. "The truck driver was approached by a car on his side of the road," said the police about the course of the accident.
Massive injuries
Several police patrols, firefighters and ambulances were at the scene. The driver of the car - a 54-year-old woman from Klagenfurt - was trapped in her vehicle during the collision. "The driver, who was alone in the car, was severely trapped in the chest and pelvic area due to the force of the impact," said the fire department.
All help came too late
According to Harald Geissler, commander of the Villach main fire station, the woman could not be saved despite all efforts - she died. "Despite the rapid and professional intervention of the fire department, the emergency doctor present was unfortunately only able to determine that the woman had died," says Geissler. The truck driver (60) from Styria was slightly injured.
The semitrailer of the truck was not damaged. No hazardous substances escaped.
It will take some time to determine the cause of the accident and evaluate the evidence.
