Ex-Hirscher coach
ÖSV bang! Pircher switches to Braathen
After the Norwegian Lucas Braathen announced his return to alpine ski racing as a Brazilian at the beginning of March, the 24-year-old with a Brazilian mother has gained prominent support from the ÖSV! Michael "Mike" Pircher, former coach of eight-time overall World Cup winner Marcel Hirscher and most recently head of the "WC4" training group in the ÖSV, is now part of Braathen's coaching team.
Braathen, who won the Slalom World Cup in 2022/23, fell out with the Norwegian Ski Association before the start of last season. The background to this was the association's rather restrictive interpretation of personal and marketing rights.
The conflict was sparked by the fact that Braathen had advertised for a clothing company without permission from the Norges Skiforbund.
The day before, the DSV had announced the signing of 54-year-old Tyrolean Karlheinz Pichler, among others. He most recently worked for the giant slalom women in the ÖSV. Now the 54-year-old Tyrolean is moving to the DSV, where he will be responsible for the women's speed disciplines.
The Austrian Ski Association confirmed both departures on Thursday. Although the successors are already known internally, an official announcement is yet to follow, they said.
