Travel guide dispute
“We need Paris-Lodron-Strasse for buses”
No coaches in the Andräviertel! That's what a Salzburg travel guide is demanding. This particularly infuriates his professional colleagues. The spokesperson for the Salzburg tourist guides understands.
Tourist guide Hannes Kittel has gone ahead in the "Krone" newspaper. The Salzburg tourist guide called for the coach terminal in Paris-Lodron-Straße to be closed as quickly as possible - and incurred the displeasure of his professional colleagues. "We need a drop-off point there, anything else is nonsense," says Inez Reichl, spokesperson for the Salzburg tourist guides, angrily. Because: "Otherwise the bus drivers just let the tourists get off somewhere wildly and disorderly," she says.
The second bus terminal in Erzabt-Klotz-Straße in Nonntal is by no means sufficient, according to the tourist guide. "What do I do with guests who are going to the Landestheater? You can't send them through the entire city beforehand," Reichl emphasizes. The bus stop in Paris-Lodron-Straße is also essential for tourists staying at hotels and guesthouses on this side of the old town. Reichl: "At least as long as there is no alternative."
This puts the tourist guide in line with future City Councillor for Transport Anna Schiester. She is open to abandoning the terminal in Paris-Lodron-Straße. But: "Out of consideration for the local residents, we can't send all the coaches on to Nonntal." Tour guide Reichl agrees: "May and September are the high season for coaches. We have to distribute them across both exits."
In the past, there have always been problems in Paris-Lodron-Straße - the exit point not far from Mirabell Palace is correspondingly narrow. An online booking system has been in place since 2018. Bus drivers are only allowed to arrive if they have booked a time slot for arrival and departure in advance. Reichl: "There have been no problems since then."
