Banned from the set
Winslet’s sex scene caused crew to burst out laughing
Hilarious! Kate Winslet revealed an unusual incident on set at a press conference for her new mini-series "The Regime". The director had to throw two crew members off the set because they had a fit of laughter while filming a sex scene with the two main actors and couldn't stop.
In the black comedy, the British Oscar winner plays Chancellor Elena Vernham, the charismatic and crazy head of a fictitious Eastern European state. She falls in love with the brutal military leader Herbert Zuback (played by Belgian actor Matthias Schoenaerts), alias "The Butcher".
Crew members expelled from the set for laughing
He has a habit of biting her finger when Elena puts hers in his mouth during intimate games. This was incorporated into a hysterically funny love scene in episode 5.
Winslet: "Elena and Zuback are having sex and she's screaming at him, 'Don't bite', 'Don't bite'. Whereupon we had to ban two crew members from the set for laughing."
The two banned crew members were, of all people, the main cameraman and the make-up artist. The absence of the latter in particular caused a real problem for Winslet: "Matthias had all these fake tattoos on his body. And the more we sweated, the more they transferred to my skin during the sex scene. I felt like a printed newspaper."
And the make-up disaster couldn't be fixed quickly either - because the giggling make-up artist was missing.
"Almost wet my pants laughing"
Winslet forgave her, of course, because she kept messing up scenes by laughing herself: "We had to improvise so much. And there wasn't a single scene where we didn't almost pee our pants laughing!"
