What Stani says about the WSG Tirol coaching job
WSG Tirol have to look for a new coach due to the imminent departure of Thomas Silberberger. Someone who has visited the Watten Bundesliga squad at training time and again in recent years has been named on the rumor market. The "Tiroler Krone" interviewed him.
The coaching offers are piling up in Stefan Köck's WSG Tirol office! A week after Thomas Silberberger announced his retirement after the current season, the market has started to move. However, the Watten sports director has not yet given it much thought: "Our focus is currently fully on staying in the league! But I will have a look at the pile next week."
Always an onlooker
Köck can already cross one name off the list. A name that has been mentioned again and again in the past few days around the Watten team. But Stanislav Cherchessov will not be returning to his second home as WSG coach. The former Russia team boss was an onlooker at a training session in Wattens at least once during each of his stays in Tirol, and the former world-class goalkeeper also enjoyed sitting in the Tivoli stands during Bundesliga matches.
When asked by the "Tiroler Krone", Stani himself waved it off: "Thank you for asking. But I'm busy with other things!" Most recently, Cherchesov was under contract as coach at Hungarian cult club Ferencvaros Budapest, where he won two titles, including the double. However, a defeat in the Champions League qualifiers against the Faroe Islands representative Torshhavn meant the sudden end of his involvement.
Köck took it with humor
Köck took the "rejection" with gallows humor: "I couldn't even pay Stani for a week anyway!" However, the WSG sports director emphasized that he holds Cherchesov in high esteem: "Hats off to what he has achieved. And whenever he visits us, the banter starts." However, Stani is not helping with the search for a coach, which is only just beginning.
