"Can go anywhere"
Austria Salzburg continues to dream of its own stadium
Political veto against major project! Mayor Harald Preuner (ÖVP) still stands by his clear "no" to the planned Austria stadium at the exhibition center. Nevertheless, the Violets are not giving up and are looking for an alternative location.
The people in charge of Salzburg's Austria probably had one last glimmer of hope. At the joint media meeting with Mayor Harald Preuner (ÖVP) and ÖVP top candidate Florian Kreibich - who canceled at short notice - they hung a picture of their dream project on the Messezentrum site behind the joint podium. As reported, the Bavarian entrepreneur Max Aicher wants to build a stadium for Austria as well as hundreds of apartments there. This has met with only limited approval from city politicians.
Mayor Preuner reiterated on Friday: "Apartments near the highway will never be approved. The area envisaged for the stadium does not belong in part to Messe, but to private individuals," he said, dismissing the plans as a pipe dream.
The future of Austria still lies in Maxglan
Nevertheless, Austria President Claus Salzmann is not giving up. He remains committed to the project. Because: "The layout of the Messe Stadium can be transferred to any site," he is convinced. The question remains as to where such a site should be located in the city of Salzburg. In any case, the club is still looking for an alternative location. However, one thing is clear: "Even if we found a suitable site, it would still take years before construction could begin," says Salzmann. It is therefore all the more important that the soccer club can continue to use the current stadium in Maxglan without restrictions.
