Injured by dog, owner is left with the costs
Shock for a dog owner on Sunday afternoon in Linz-Kleinmünchen. Somehow the little Yorkshire Terrier "Puppe" managed to escape from home. When his owner noticed this, the dog had to be treated by the vet for serious bite injuries. What had happened?
According to the owner, "Puppe" had only been walking alone for 30 minutes. Witnesses claim to have seen "Puppe" being attacked by a larger dog - possibly a husky - during this time on Vogelfängerweg in Linz-Kleinmünchen.
Surgery was not necessary
"According to a woman, the little dog was literally mauled. He had bite wounds on both sides of his chest. We immediately took the dog to the vet," explains Georg P. from the Linz Animal Ambulance and ICARA Animal Rescue. The doctor was then able to rule out a thorax and lung injury. An operation was not necessary.
It is unclear whether the dog was on a lead
The bite victim is now doing "relatively well under the circumstances". However, the vet's treatment has not yet been completed - and the owner will probably be stuck with the costs. The owner of the attacker fled the scene after the attack is not known. It is unclear whether or not the dog was on a lead at the time of the attack.
"Many people take advantage of the moment of shock after such an attack and disappear. It's like drivers who cause parking damage and drive on anyway," the animal rescuer compares the situation.
