War has been raging in Ukraine for two years and the situation on the ground remains catastrophic. The Ukraine aid provided by "Neighbors in Need" continues two years after the start of the war and is still dependent on donations from Austria. Pius Strobl, the ORF head of "Neighbors in Need", makes it clear: "We still need money."

On February 24, it was exactly two years ago that the Russian war of aggression against Ukraine began - and continues to this day. And for almost two years, the people of Ukraine have been living in a state of emergency. Entire cities lie in ruins, family members are dead, injured or on the run. A generation is growing up in war, accompanied by fear and uncertainty.

More than 101 million euros have been made available so far, 59.4 million from the population and almost 42 million from the Foreign Disaster Fund, reported Neighbors in Need board member Michael Opriesnig on Wednesday. The volume of donations declined over the course of the year. "We will continue to need support," he appealed

"Ukraine fatigue"
Last year, he had already noticed a "Ukraine fatigue" and that "the war has almost ceased to play a role in our attention", said Opriesnig, Secretary General of the Austrian Red Cross. "For the people there, however, it is a matter of survival day after day," he said at a press conference in Vienna.

"'Neighbor in Need' is also a term in Ukraine," said the Ukrainian ambassador in Vienna, Wassyl Chymynez, who had followed the press conference in the audience. This shows that the aid is getting through, he assured.

On February 24, it was exactly two years ago that the Russian war of aggression against Ukraine began - and continues to this day.

However, the psychological burden remains high, with a total of 17.6 million people - almost half the population - dependent on humanitarian aid and around ten million suffering from acute stress or mental illness. What everyone agrees on is that the Ukrainian population remains incredibly resilient.
