EU election poll:
AfD is twice as strong as in 2019
According to a survey, the AfD could double its 2019 election result if the European elections were held on Sunday. The party achieved 22% in a survey published on Tuesday. In the 2019 election, the party was still at eleven percent.
The right-wing populist party, some of whose state and youth organizations are classified by the Federal Office for the Protection of the Constitution as "definitely extremist", is currently in second place behind the CDU/CSU in voter favour. In the survey conducted by the Insa opinion research institute on behalf of "t-online", the CDU/CSU parties came in at 27%.
The CDU/CSU would lose 1.9 percentage points compared to the previous election. According to the survey, the biggest loser would be the Greens, who would slip to 10.5 percent. In 2019, they still achieved 20.5 percent - their result would almost halve.
Wagenknecht party currently at 5.5 percent
The SPD is currently at around the same level as in the previous European elections. It comes in at 16% in the survey, compared to 15.8% in 2019. The FDP lost 2.4 percentage points and fell to three percent. According to the survey, the Left Party came in at 4.5% (-1 percentage point). The alliance Sahra Wagenknecht (BSW), which wants to run for the first time, comes in at 5.5 percent in the survey.
