While the fire departments in Lower Carinthia were dealing with a fire in the roof truss of a farmhouse, firefighters in Upper Carinthia were deployed to the Kärntnermilch site.

A total of five fire departments with 110 firefighters rushed to a fire at the Kärntnermilch company in Spittal at around 4.30 p.m. on Friday afternoon. "The company's fire alarm system was triggered by the staff and the fire departments were notified very quickly," explains Walter Egger from the Spittal fire brigade. Once the smoke-filled building had been evacuated without any problems, the firefighters set out to find the source of the smoke.

Fire could be extinguished quickly
"According to initial investigations, a light fitting on the ceiling in a cold room of the industrial plant had started to burn," said the firefighter. As a result, the cold room and the adjoining storage rooms were heavily filled with smoke. However, the fire was quickly extinguished using heavy breathing protection. "The storage rooms were then cleared of smoke using pressure ventilators." After around an hour, the operation was brought to an end. No one was injured and major damage was prevented.

Fire in the false ceiling
In Frantschach-St. Gertraud, the roof truss of a wooden farmhouse caught fire on Friday evening. "It was an incipient fire in the false ceiling, which caused a lot of smoke to develop," a firefighter told the Krone. "The space between the stove and the chimney probably caught fire and spread through the false ceilings to parts of the roof," said the police. According to initial information, two people were able to rescue themselves from the house. Thanks to the rapid intervention of the firefighters, the situation is now under control. The Wolfsberg, Frantschach, Theißenegg, St. Margareten, Kamp and St. Stefan fire brigades were deployed.
