Pupil Bruno (8) from Wiener Neustadt is battling a muscle disease. A courageous city councillor and her group have now helped financially, as the treatment costs are enormous ...

His name is Bruno, born on October 11, 2016. Bruno is a happy, funny boy who is celebrating his birthday today. He currently attends the Pestalozzi School in Wiener Neustadt. "I love learning," says the brave boy - he brings home very good grades.

Rare hereditary disease
Why brave? On January 23, the pupil felt a severe muscle cramp in his right leg. Several doctors examined him - and on February 29, Bruno was diagnosed with "DMD" - a hereditary disease in which muscle cells deteriorate. However, the little boy wants to continue his life as normal and not spend it in a wheelchair. However, the only way to prevent the disease from worsening is through very expensive treatment in the USA and costly medication.

The boy's family then launched a fundraising campaign on the internet platform "GoFundMe".

Money from "We women"
Now there was also financial support in Wiener Neustadt: In the presence of the senior physician of the pediatric department of the Wiener Neustadt Clinic, Birgit Scheicher, and nursing manager Lena Dragos, city councillor Erika Buchinger presented Bruno and his mom with a donation from the "We Women" campaign. We can only hope that many more donors will be found.
