Garbage truck stuck on garage roof

In the early hours of this morning, a 51-year-old man was driving a garbage truck on a snow-covered road. It left the road, skidded across a meadow and did not come to a standstill.

A 51-year-old employee from Spittal an der Drau was driving his waste disposal vehicle on the L-10 (Trebesinger Landesstraße) in the Spittal an der Drau area this morning. A 34-year-old employee, also from the district of Spittal, was sitting in the passenger seat. Due to the snow-covered road, the vehicle skidded, then left the road and slid down a meadow on the west side. As the driver was unable to brake, the truck hit the roof of a garage there and got stuck on the side of the fence in front of a steeply sloping plot of land. 

The driver and co-driver were able to free themselves from the accident vehicle and called the emergency services. The 51-year-old driver was taken to Spittal an der Drau Hospital with minor injuries.

Recovery by specialist company
The Spittal an der Drau fire department was able to secure the vehicle hanging on the side of the fence with two fire engines and ropes to prevent it from slipping any further. The local residents were informed. Recovery work is expected to continue until midday. A total closure of the Trebesinger Landesstraße cannot be ruled out during the recovery work - detour are available.
