The end for "Unort"
Green meadow instead of dilapidated ruins in the pre-monastery
An eyesore in the Bregenz pre-monastery is soon to be razed to the ground. The city has already made the decision.
The corner has not been really pretty for a long time: in the area of Bregenzer Quellenstraße, Ilgagasse and Vorklostergasse, the houses were increasingly falling into disrepair, brambles were overgrowing an entire garden area, plaster was crumbling from the facades - and finally, the abandoned houses were already being used as dormitories and meeting places for homeless people.
According to Mayor Michael Ritsch (SPÖ), renovating this "ensemble" would no longer be economically viable - which is why the recent city council meeting decided to demolish everything and raze it to the ground. Following the demolition of the buildings and the subsequent leveling of the site, a rough pasture is to be created to provide suitable living conditions for various plant and animal species.
The city is investing 120,000 euros in the project. "The address at Quellenstrasse 40 is a 'non-place'. It was high time that this site was cleaned up," explained Ritsch after the decision.
