Stairs collapsed under soldiers: Two injured

As the saying goes, "It's always stupid when there's an accident", and the unexpected also led to an accident with injuries during an army exercise in the district of Völkermarkt.

In a former accommodation facility in the district of Völkermarkt, soldiers of the Austrian Armed Forces were practicing for an emergency. Four soldiers simultaneously climbed a staircase leading from the outside to the second floor. But the old staircase could not withstand the load and the platform broke. Two soldiers fell three meters to the ground. 

A 57-year-old professional soldier was seriously injured and a recruit (19) was slightly injured. Another professional soldier (32) was able to hold on to the railing and escape the fall. The fourth soldier, a recruit, was able to enter the building in time.

The injured were taken to the accident hospital in Klagenfurt by the ambulance service.
