Escape from Russia?
Dead Tengelmann boss: brother under investigation
For almost three years, former Tengelmann boss Karl-Erivan Haub has been officially presumed dead. The German billionaire disappeared without a trace during a ski tour in the Swiss Alps. But the circumstances are still considered mysterious. Now a team of journalists has reported the brother of the former CEO - because of an allegedly false affidavit regarding Haub's death.
According to the news channel ntv, this has led to a new investigation into Haub. "There are strong indications that he may have deliberately caused his disappearance," investigative journalist Liv von Boetticher told ntv. This is the "last resort" to investigate the background to the disappearance. Von Boetticher and her colleagues have compiled what they consider to be a convincing body of evidence.
Pictures and telephone calls to an alleged Russian mistress are said to prove that Haub had absconded to Russia. According to reports, the pictures were taken by a security company commissioned by the missing man's brother to investigate the rumors. In the course of the investigation, the security service is said to have searched for Haub's biometric data in the Moscow surveillance system.
Escape to Russia or external negligence?
RTL journalist von Boetticher is convinced that the former manager absconded because of his dealings with "questionable players in the Russian economy". But it could also be that Haub was actually dead, but not in an accident. Von Boetticher and her team hope that the investigations now being launched by the Cologne public prosecutor's office will finally provide answers to the questions that have been bothering them for years.
