East Tyrol: Car plunged into the depths – driver dead

A terrible accident occurred on Wednesday on a forest road in Schlaiten (district of Lienz) in Tyrol! After her husband had not returned home in the morning as agreed, the wife (50) reported this to the police. During a large-scale search operation, the terrible discovery was made: the 60-year-old had crashed his car on a forest path and died.

The man had set off for the mountain hut in the municipality of Schlaiten a few days ago and had not returned home on Wednesday morning as agreed. The 50-year-old wife reported this to the police in Lienz on Wednesday evening. As there was sometimes no cell phone reception in the Michelbachtal valley, she was also unable to reach him. A self-initiated search with the help of relatives was initially unsuccessful.

Car plunged into the depths
The police then launched a large-scale search operation. In the course of this, the missing man's car was found at around 11.30 p.m. in the Klosterfrauenalm area. The vehicle had apparently strayed off the forest path there and plunged around 50 meters over steep forest terrain.

Trapped under the vehicle
The local man was trapped under the vehicle as a result of the accident. The emergency services were only able to determine that the man had died. He was rescued during the night.

According to initial information, the driver may have tried to turn the vehicle around on the forest road. In doing so, he probably went over the edge of the road and crashed.
